Dialog opens 4000th communication tower in 30 villages: Rs 50 billion record investment


Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka's largest network, is committed to connecting Sri Lankans with each other and empowering the country with digital facilities. Opening its 4000th telephone tower at Thihawa Village, Kurunegala, it further expanded its coverage to the people of the area.

 In line with its efforts to expand coverage across Sri Lanka and during this epidemic season, Dialog was able to set up its 4000th mobile 4G tower by adding 515 new towers to its network of communication towers, making it the largest tower network in the country. Dialog uses technologies such as Lamp Poles to rapidly expand its reach to remote communities, as well as to meet high demand in urban areas. In addition, in conjunction with the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka 'Gamata Communication' project, 450 more towers will be added to its massive tower network over the next six months, covering 95% of the country's population by 4G by the end of 2021.


During this epidemic season, Dialog Communications was able to meet 100 percent increased data demand for mobile phones and 200 percent fixed data demand, and Dialog Communications Network provides 60 percent of Sri Lanka's mobile data usage. In addition to installing new communication towers to meet this hugely growing demand, Dialog is also working to increase the capacity of its existing towers. Dialog is set to increase its capacity to 2,831 mobile 4G towers and 1816 fixed broadband connection towers during the epidemic season. Dialog plans to increase the capacity of its network towers to 75 percent by the end of this year.


Dialog has also doubled the frequency range of its 4G network with new investments.


 Dialog, the country's largest foreign direct investor with a total investment of US $ 2.8 billion to date, plans to invest US $ 207 million in 2021 alone to develop such infrastructure. In addition, the company had agreed to invest US $ 254.1 million in February 2020.
